Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies

The Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies, headquartered in Santa Cruz, CA was established in 1986 to help scientists design, fund, and obtain regulatory approval for clinical drug research. Of special interest to the Mercer Family Foundation are MAPS’ research efforts into MDMA (methylenedioxymethamphetamine) for the treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In 2018, the Mercer Family Foundation provided a $1M grant to MAPS, which it will spend on research for veterans suffering from PTSD. MAPS has been leading a push to have MDMA approved for psychiatric purposes as a breakthrough in the treatment of PTSD.
